About Henk
Before joining Zuyderzee Capital in 2017 Henk was employed at ABN AMRO Bank from 1995 onwards. Henk was responsible for the Special Situations department which has a global focus on special situations and alternative investments across a wide range of industries & geographies. He was a member of the ABN AMRO Restructuring and Recovery decision making committee for many years.
Prior to setting up the Special Situations department, he was responsible for the International Restructuring Group covering leveraged finance transactions, transportation, energy, commodities and project finance.
Henk has extensive international transaction experience in private equity, M&A, leveraged finance and restructuring deals. He has served on many restructuring steering committees and boards of directors.
Henk's experience and skills equip him to produce innovative and pragmatic solutions to challenging situations dealing with growth, turnaround, expansion or distress.
He has managed a portfolio of equity investments including development of business and value creation plans, assembling management teams, disposals and exits and strategic planning.
Henk has worked inter alia in continental Europe, Spain, and United States. He is a Belgian citizen with a Masters degree in Business Economics from Ghent University, a Post-Master degree in International Management from the University of Hasselt, and a Post-Master degree in International Economics from Portland State University.

About Thijs
In 2016 Thijs founded Zuyderzee Capital after he worked for ten years at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands in trade, commodity, ship finance, project finance and debt and capital restructuring.
At ABN AMRO Bank Thijs had various commercial roles. He acted as deal captain for many core clients of the bank both in the maritime and infrastructure industries. His key focus areas were project finance, corporate lending, cash management and derivatives.
He has originated, structured and executed a wide variety of finance transactions globally. Both in commercial transactions as well as sophisticated complex restructurings.
Thijs was an active member of several steering and coordinating committees representing the interest of investors, lenders, charterers and creditors in highly challenging cross-border environments and legislations.
Thijs is a Dutch citizen and holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and a Bachelor degree in Accounting from the Rotterdam Business School.

About Michiel
Before joining Zuyderzee Capital in July 2019 Michiel has been employed with DVB Bank, a transport finance specialist mainly active in ship, aircraft and railcar financing, for almost 24 years. Most recently Michiel was employed as Head of Shipping Finance Europe (one of the 5 regional shipping teams) and a member of the management team of the bank.
Prior to this, Michiel has had other senior commercial, business development and risk management roles in the industry. Michiel managed multi-billion US$ senior debt portfolio’s from a commercial as well as a risk management perspective.
Michiel structured and managed numerous container equipment, shipping and infrastructure transactions. He was also the global head Syndications at DVB Bank from 2005 to 2010 maintaining relationships with other financial institutions on a global basis and distributing large volumes of senior and junior shipping, aviation and rolling stock debt. Michiel has worked inter alia in Singapore, London and continental Europe. He is a Dutch citizen with a Masters degree in Law from Erasmus University in Rotterdam and completed a Risk Management program at INSEAD.

About Mathijs
Associate Partner Mathijs started his professional career in 2003 at Heijmans, a Dutch listed construction & infrastructure company, as a corporate finance analyst and was engaged in financing and M&A deals.
In 2009 he moved to Delta Lloyd Asset Management (now NN Investment Partners) as a senior portfolio manager managing several multi-billion funds covering corporate bonds, convertible loans and private corporate loans.
In 2009 he was co-responsible for setting-up a multi-billion corporate private loan fund offering direct debt finance solutions to corporates in sectors such as infrastructure, logistics, maritime and industry in North Western Europe with a focus on the Benelux.
Mathijs has a strong background in corporate valuation & analysis and extensive experience in structuring investment decisions and portfolio management in both liquid and illiquid credit markets. Over the years Mathijs was involved in multiple private loan and capital raising deals.
Mathijs is a Dutch citizen and holds a master’s degree in International Business Administration from Maastricht University, the Netherlands.

About Caspar
Before joining Zuyderzee Capital in 2019, Caspar worked at ABN AMRO for 8 years and with a shipping consultancy group for 2 years. Caspar also has a longstanding family background in the shipping industry.
At ABN AMRO Caspar focused on shipping and related industries as a commercial relationship manager, financial restructuring officer and mergers & acquisitions officer. He has structured a wide array of ship finance transactions including broadly syndicated transactions, bilateral loans to factoring for pools.
As a financial restructuring officer, Caspar was involved in challenging restructurings of storage terminals, shipyards and numerous international shipping related files.
In the M&A team Caspar advised on the sale & leaseback of a fleet of bitumen tankers, sale of a container box portfolio, sale of a fleet of LR1 product tankers, numerous equity raisings and other transactions.
Caspar holds a Masters degree in Business Economics from the University of Amsterdam.

About Caroline
Before joining Zuyderzee Capital in 2020, Caroline worked as a freelance consultant for numerous clients such as the non-listed regulated real estate investment company Cairn Real estate.
Prior to that Caroline was part of PWC’s Corporate Finance Debt and Capital advisory team, PWC’s Performance Improvement team and prior to that PWC’s Business Modelling team.
Caroline holds a Master’s degree in Structural Geology /Tectonics (VU Amsterdam), a Master’s degree in Business Economics (University of Amsterdam) and was further educated at Nyenrode University.

About Martijn
Martijn joined Zuyderzee Capital in October 2020 after a long career in banking. Over the past decade Martijn has been employed with ABN AMRO Bank where he was responsible for the commercial support activities related to asset based lending, cash management products, client acceptance (KYC) and customer due diligence (CDD) for over 60+ international client groups with a background in deep sea shipping/transportation, infrastructure intermodal, railcar, and aircraft ownership and exploitation.
Prior to this position he headed the Fortis Bank Mid Office Dutch Securities Handling team and was responsible for handling and registering incidents and calls of the 150+ Fortis retails offices and investment teams, which related to the cross border (Benelux) securities administration.
Martijn holds 24 years of (inter)national banking experience in operational and administrational support services with Retail, SME and Corporate & Institutional clients. He provides customer excellence and is relationship driven, which he combines with a hands-on mentality and pragmatic approach.
